The Foundation Year 1 doctors commencing their rotation in August are requested to complete two weeks shadowing at the end of July. As this is not paid, it is not compulsory; but we do strongly advise trainees to attend to enable their orientation at the Trust.
Under GMC guidelines Foundation Year 1 trainees are required to attend two days paid induction and two days paid shadowing in the four days prior commencing their rotation at the Trust. Foundation Year trainees always begin their rotation on the first Wednesday in August, and therefore the Monday and Tuesday prior to that are reserved for their shadowing days, and the Thursday and Friday prior to that are reserved for induction.
NHS E mandates that all new Foundation Year 1 doctors are to complete 15 e-learning induction modules within the first 4 weeks of their rotation.
All Foundation doctors rotate in their placements three times a year, always on the first Wednesday of August, December, and April. All Departments are expected to provide trainees with a local induction within 2 weeks of starting in the Department, and Department Induction forms must be signed by the trainee and their Supervisor and returned to the Medical Education Department for auditing purposes.
