There are a number of roles your Trade Union supports you with.
The role of the Workplace Representative is to support members, individually and collectively, who have concerns in the workplace. The local representative should be the first port of call in these circumstances. Workplace Representative also formally negotiate on workplace issues on their members' behalf eg at JNCC (Joint Negotiating and Consultative Committee) and the OD & HR Committee. The role of the Learning Representative is to support individual and collective needs of members in the workplace, including negotiating with managers for learning facilities and direct benefits in terms of training and development.
The role of Health and Safety Representative is to highlight health and safety issues keeping them at the top of workplace agenda. Engage with members to discuss how issues can be solved to ensure positive outcomes when dealing with potential health and safety issues
The role of an Equality Representative is to help promote equality and fairness at work by encouraging employers to improve equality policies and practices, offering independent advice and guidance on equality issues to employees, and raising the profile of the equality agenda within their unions. They may handle issues such as flexible working, reasonable adjustments and discrimination.
