Our Leadership and Management Development Offer

As part of our commitment to develop confident and compassionate leaders, we commit to reviewing our leadership and management development offer. Using our workforce transformation strategy as the platform and compassionate leadership as our focus, we will work on ensuring that our offer is relevant, stretching and inspires leaders within our Blackpool family to be at their best for our patients and staff.

We have aligned our offer to at all levels of leadership – from aspiring through to executive. Below are our definitions.

Levels of leadership…

We recognise that high quality, safe and effective care, we need to lead and manage our people in a way that is in line with our values. We’re here to support our managers and leaders throughout their journey and have identified learning opportunities for:

  • Aspiring leaders: an individual who demonstrates potential, holds aspirations for progression and who is preparing themselves to step up into their first management role
  • First-line managers: an individual who has responsibility for or who directly supervises a team of people who do not line manage others, whilst overseeing the daily operations
  • Middle managers: an individual who takes responsibility for those who may also line manage others, whilst supporting the delivery of the strategic plan
  • Senior managers: an individual who interprets, informs and influences the strategic direction of the function and translates this direction to support their teams to effectively deliver against the plan

We work hard to continuously shape and improve our leadership and management development offer for everyone at every level. Below outlines the key areas of development on offer at each stage throughout your leadership and management journey here at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. Access to these opportunities must be evidenced through an individual’s appraisal and talent conversation. External development requests are subject to budget resource and relevant identified learning outcomes.
