ALS GIC Training

ALS is an FY2 competency, undertaken at this Trust in your FY1 rotation.

In the process of successfully completing this training, some trainees are identified as having Instructor Potential (IP).

To become an ALS Instructor, you have 4 years in which to sit the Generic Instructor Course (GIC) training.

However, the Foundation School do not support funding for GIC training as part of the Study Leave budget for Foundation trainees.

You are able to fund GIC yourself and take Annual Leave (not Professional Leave) to complete the training, but considering the commitment required following GIC training we would recommend completing your Foundation Training before completing the GIC training.

For full details re: the commitment required following the GIC training, please refer to the Resuscitation Council (UK) website.
