A guide for managers and colleagues to support new starters in ‘finding their feet’ at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Introduction

The purpose of inductions at Blackpool Teaching Hospital

Starting a new job can be nerve-wracking and certainly puts people out of their ‘comfort zone’. The initial few weeks in a job are extremely important in helping new starters settle in, find their feet, and feel like part of the team.

In fact, research has shown that more than 25% of employees make the decision whether to stay or leave within the first week. We really need to make it count!

This highlights that investing in providing the best possible start for new employees is crucial. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals (BTH) recognises the importance of the provision of a timely induction for all our staff.

We are invested in providing the best possible start to new BTH family members. We appreciate that having a smooth joining process is important in helping them to settle into their role and understand how we work.

As the manager of a new starter, you will receive an email upon their start which outlines the responsibilities of managers in the onboarding process – specifically the Local Induction.

The Local Induction Form will be included in this email and is for you to work through with your new starter. Get the whole team involved!

This must be completed and uploaded to ESR within 4 weeks of the start date.

Reminder!

The intranet is full of valuable information - taking time to explore with the new starter will give them greater confidence in understanding where they can access and find information. 

It is imperative that new starters complete Data Security Awareness Training. Please do check this has been completed prior to providing them with access to records etc.
