Research & Development

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust supports research in many areas. Our clinicians, supported by Research Nurses and Clinical Support staff, predominately recruit patients into national and international multi-centre clinical trials, many of which are on the National Institute of Heath Research's portfolio and are funded by one of the Department of Health partners.

The Trust has a strong commitment to support the NHS R&D agenda. We are seen as a good centre to conduct clinical trials with excellent recruitment rates and reliable data. Our staff are encouraged to undertake research or participate in research both funded by one of the Department of Health partners, universities, charities or industry.

The Research and Development Department is dedicated to supporting and furthering research and development within the Trust. If you are a researcher wishing to carry out a study at the Trust, the R&D Departmental staff will be able to guide you through the process of:

  • How to check whether your work is research and not audit or service evaluation
  • How to get help in protocol development, study design, data management and analysis
  • Setting up a study
  • How to get Trust R&D approval and NHS ethical approval

We welcome enquiries from researchers, staff and patients or members of the public who would like advice or further information. We also have an Intranet Research Support page giving you basic information on developing your project from start to finish which you can visit by clicking here (only accessible when connected to the trust network).
