Staff Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy is now available for all Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff through The Staff Health & Wellbeing Centre.

The Trust is now able to offer fast access to musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy services to staff. Any member of staff who is suffering with neck, back, shoulder or similar problems that are interfering with their work can refer to the service.

Ways to refer:

Manager referral:

Managers will need to refer staff via the the oneHR gateway and will need to complete the manager referral form online.

Please also advise your staff member to fill in an online Physiotherapy referral form also as this will result in them getting an appointment quicker. Physiotherapy Referral Form

Both the physiotherapy form and the online referral will then be triaged before the member of staff is offered an appointment.   If other adjustments are requested on the Management referral form, this may result in an additional appointment with one of the OH clinicians as well as a Physiotherapy appointment.

Based on the outcome of the triage, they will either be offered a face to face appointment, or a 30 minute telephone appointment, followed by a face to face appointment if necessary.

You should approach your manager to ask them to refer you through the manager referral system to which they should attach your completed form. This will allow the physiotherapist to advise your manager of any limitations or adjustments that may help you in the work place.

Sue Houldsworth: Interim Head of Occupational Health Services, said: “This is a new service that is the result of feedback from staff and a very successful pilot scheme that we ran.

“Recently the CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) found that one in every six staff absences in the NHS were due to an MSK disorder. MSK related injury or illness accounts for nearly 15% of all sickness absence in the Trust and is the second single largest reason for staff requiring sick leave.

“By giving staff faster access to these services, we hope that we can prevent and reduce MSK related injury and sickness absence. Our aim is to support staff to remain healthy and well at work.’’
