Responses to common queries to the ESR & L&D Teams

The ESR and Learning and Development teams receive a high volume of queries, and to ensure we can respond quickly to common questions; we have put together some information and frequently asked questions. If you have been sent this link by L&D or ESR, then the answer to your query can be found below.

Topics included are:

  • Removing/Altering Training Competencies
  • Conflict Resolution Training (Dealing with Violence & Aggression
  • Moving & Handling, Level 2 Training
  • Consent Training
  • Mask Fitting
  • Resuscitation – Basic Life Support (BLS) Training
  • Freedom to Speak Up Training NEW 2023

Requests to remove/alter an allocated training competence from your training profile:

The L&D and ESR team receive many of these requests and isn’t always the easiest process to remove. The Trust have recently embarked on a project to devise an approved framework of mandatory training that will address issues of adding and removing competencies.

Therefore, as training competencies may be changed as part of this project, we will be ‘pausing’ individual requests to remove/alter. We appreciate that this isn’t ideal, however, our aim is to streamline our processes and improve working practices for us all.

If you have any concerns, please contact Karen Levesley karen.levesley@nhs.net

Conflict Resolution Training – Dealing with Violence and Aggression

There continues to be ongoing challenges to deliver certain face-to-face training programmes. As options are explored to meet the training needs, please note, if your compliance has lapsed for training that you currently cannot access due to unavailability, this will not impact on pay step progression. Do make sure that you are fully compliant with your e-learning and if you have any issues accessing or completing the e-learning modules via ESRs, please contact  bfwh.esr.helpdesk@nhs.net

Any updates to these training programmes will be communicated to staff when information is available.

There are Conflict Resolution Champions across the Trust, who may be delivering training in their local areas.

Do contact them to see if they have any spare places. Please remember that this is a voluntary role within their position, which remains their priority.

Moving & Handling Level 2

There continues to be ongoing challenges to deliver certain face-to-face training programmes. To address these challenges we will shortly be introducing a M&H L2 e-learning package for those that require refresh training.  if your compliance has lapsed for training that you currently cannot access due to unavailability, this will not impact on pay-step progression.

We will be focusing the M&H L2 face-to-face practical sessions on new starters and those that have never completed the training. If you have never completed the training please email bfwh.orgdevelopment@nhs.net for further information.

Do make sure that you are fully compliant with your e-learning and if you have any issues accessing or completing the e-learning modules via ESRs, please contact  bfwh.esr.helpdesk@nhs.net

There are Moving & Handling Champions across the Trust, who may be delivering training in their local areas. Do contact a champion in your area to see what training is available.

Please remember that this is a voluntary role within their position, which remains their priority.

M&H Champions can be found here - M&H Champions

Consent Training

At the end of 2020, we received notification from our LMS providers ESR that the e-learning courses Capacity and Difficult Consent and Patient Consent had been withdrawn with immediate effect as content contained within the courses was no longer current.

This is an issue that is being addressed across the ICS with an e-learning package being developed. As soon as this is available, we will communicate to all staff that are required to complete this training.

Mask Fitting

    Booking a Mask Fit Test

To book a Mask Fit Test appointment, please use the link provided to select an appropriate date / time -  Book your appointment here

    Do not require Mask Fitting?

If you are required to complete Mask Fitting and this is not relevant to your role, you can complete and exemption for this to be removed.

The exemption is found on ESR. Any staff member who requires to be exempt will need to enrol on the mask fitting course:

Once enrolled follow the instructions, the results will be sent to the staff members line manager for approval. Once approved this will then show on ESR for the 2 years that it is valid.

I have completed the e-learning but it’s not showing as Completed on ESR?

When completing mandatory training e-learning on ESR there are a couple of checks to make sure that the completion is recorded correctly in the system.

Ensure that the e-Learning confirms you have passed the eAssessment (if the message doesn’t display at the end of the assessment a question has been left unanswered).

Exit the mandatory training e-Learning via the Blue House icon in the ESR outline.

After exiting the e-Learning course via the Blue House icon, you can check the latest Completion Date has been recorded under the e-Learning Enrolments on the Learner Homepage.
