Healthcare Science Assistant Level 2

Role – The Healthcare Science Assistant (HCSA) support workforce contributes to safe patient care across all care pathways from conception to end of life in job roles within hospitals, general practice and other settings in the healthcare sector and across all areas of healthcare science.

Who – This apprenticeship can be used to support new members of staff into the organisation as apprentices. Existing members of staff can also enrol onto this apprenticeship to develop their knowledge and skills.

Delivery Model – Face to face tuition / remote learning

Duration – Typically 18 months including End Point Assessment (EPA)

Entry Requirements Apprentices without GCSE Grade D/3 or higher must achieve Level 1 English and maths through the completion of Functional Skills while on-programme and prior to taking the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Link to Professional Registration On completion of the HCSA Apprenticeship individuals will be eligible to apply to join the Academy for HCS (AHCS) accredited register.

Healthcare Science Associate Level 4

Role – The Healthcare Science (HCS) Associate workforce supports the work of HCS Practitioners and Clinical Scientists in performing high quality, safe diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring technical and scientific procedures from conception to end of life in job roles within hospitals, general practice and other settings in the healthcare sector and across all areas of HCS.

Who – This apprenticeship can be used to support new members of staff into the organisation as apprentices. Existing members of staff can also enrol onto this apprenticeship to develop their knowledge and skills.

Delivery Model – Face to face tuition / remote learning

Duration – Typically 27 months including End Point Assessment (EPA)

Entry Requirements Apprentices without English and maths GCSE A-C/4-9 or other equivalent qualifications must achieve Level 2 English and maths through the completion of Functional Skills while on-programme and prior to taking the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Healthcare Science Practitioner Level 6

Role – Healthcare Science (HCS) Practitioners (HCSPs) fulfil a common occupational role. They work independently and as part of a team providing HCS scientific and technical services within HCS Divisions in Life Science, Physiological Science, or Physical Science, with the specific focus of work determined by the area/department within which they work. They use expertise in applied scientific techniques to deliver patient sensitive and quality assured tests, investigations and procedures (in some cases, including specialist therapeutic interventions) on samples, patients and equipment.

Who – This apprenticeship can be used to support new members of staff into the organisation as apprentices. Existing members of staff can also enrol onto this apprenticeship to develop their knowledge and skills.

Delivery Model – Face to face tuition / remote learning

Duration – Typically 40 months including End Point Assessment (EPA)

Entry Requirements Apprentices without English and maths GCSE A-C/4-9 or other equivalent qualifications must achieve Level 2 English and maths through the completion of Functional Skills while on-programme and prior to taking the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Pharmacy Services Assistant Level 2

Role - The Pharmacy Services Assistant (PSA) works under the supervision of a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, or other accountable healthcare professional. The PSA provides a variety of pharmacy and medicines services to patients, the public and other professional healthcare teams. The PSA supports the delivery of pharmacy services in a variety of pharmacy environments. A PSA will be involved in supporting the supply, preparation and assembly of medicines and products; issuing them to patients and other healthcare professionals and assisting in providing advice to patients to help them to make effective use of their medicines.

Who - This apprenticeship can be used to support new members of staff into the organisation as apprentices. Existing members of staff can also enrol onto this apprenticeship to develop their knowledge and skills.

Delivery Model - Face to face tuition / remote learning

Duration - Typically 15 months including End Point Assessment (EPA)

Entry Requirements - Apprentices without GCSE Grade D/3 or higher must achieve Level 1 English and maths through the completion of Functional Skills while on-programme and prior to taking the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Pharmacy Technician Level 3

Role - Pharmacy Technicians are registered professionals working within the regulatory standards for pharmacy, as set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Pharmacy Order 2010. Pharmacy technicians manage the supply of medicines and devices in a pharmacy and assist pharmacists with advisory services. The actual work setting will determine the specific areas of activity that the Pharmacy Technician undertakes.
