MEMBERS of the public are invited to attend a free presentation on Organ Donation the latest health seminar for members of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Lee Coulthard, Organ Donation Specialist Nurse and organ donation champion, Jo Haythornthwaite, will host a seminar entitled Organ Donation – The Truth and the Myths on Tuesday, September 4, between 10 and 11am in the Lecture Theatre, Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

To tie in with the national Organ Donation Week 2018, Lee will be explaining what organ donation is, who can donate and hopefully counter some of the most common misconceptions about organ donation.

She will be joined by Jo who will tell her own very personal story about her experience when she very courageously gave permission to donate her husband’s organs to save the lives of others.

Lee Coulthard said:  “The decision to donate organs is of course a very personal one, but one that should be made based on facts.

“With a potential change in the law on the horizon to one of an “opt out” basis, it is vital that people are armed with the correct information in order to have a positive and potentially lifesaving conversation with their families about this vital subject.”

To book a place on the seminar please contact Lauren Kavanagh in the Membership Office, on 01253 956361 or email lauren.kavanagh@nhs.net.  We ask that you sign up to become member of the Trust to attend.  Membership can be arranged over the phone.

Membership doesn’t cost anything and there are numerous benefits for the Trust and the local community alike, which can be seen on the Trust’s website: www.bfwh.nhs.uk. Your application can be received via the website, by post or by telephone.
