Dawn’s son inspires penning of book and song

Dawn and Tony with their book

Nineteen years parenting an autistic son has inspired Dawn Mitchell to write a children’s Christmas book.

Written with her musician husband Tony, Danny and the Christmas Light is an adventure story which they hope will be recognisable to other parents with autistic children.

Dawn, who is Senior Supervisor for Portering at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, said: “Danny was diagnosed with autism at three-and-a-half. The story is based on Danny’s life and traits and shows how he uses visual cues in his world.

“I hope it helps all children and other parents learn about autism as well as entertaining children who are autistic. The book is saying ‘it’s ok to be different’,” said Dawn, who lives in Fleetwood.

The story is mostly told in lavish illustrations by Zohreh Godini, a children’s illustrator from Iran, Dawn and Tony discovered on Facebook.

Tony has also written a song, Christmas Wish, to accompany the book which is available to buy on Amazon UK by searching the book title.
