A Blackpool community Nurse Consultant has been given the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse.

Anne Lloyd, who works in the Adult Community Services and Long Term Conditions Division at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was awarded the honour the by community nursing charity The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) in a recent ceremony in London.

Ann said: “I am very proud to become a Queen’s Nurse.

“I have been nursing for 36 years and love being a part of community nursing. The team have been so supportive of the application to become a Queen’s Nurse and so I am very grateful to them as well as the QNI too.”

The title is not an award for past service, but indicates a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership. Nurses who hold the title benefit from developmental workshops, bursaries, networking opportunities, and a shared professional identity.

Anne added: “Working in community nursing is very special: We facilitate someone staying in their own home and plan their anticipatory care.

“Every day is different in community nursing and the patients are at the centre of everything we do with care tailored to each individual’s needs. We are guests in their homes and so we strive to deliver an excellent service on a daily basis.”

Jason Flannigan-Salmon , Head of Clifton Hospital and Extensive Care, said: “I have the honour that I have been able to work with Anne over the past four years.

“Anne is passionate, dedicated and a true advocate for community nursing.  She is committed to providing high standards of patient care combined with offering leadership and education to other nurses and allied health professionals to ensure that patients can be supported and cared for in the community.”

Dr Crystal Oldman CBE, Chief Executive of the QNI, said:

“On behalf of the QNI I would like to congratulate Anne and welcome her as a Queen’s Nurse.

“Queen’s Nurses serve as leaders and role models in community nursing, delivering high quality health care across the country. The application and assessment process to become a Queen’s Nurse is rigorous and requires clear commitment to improving care for patients, their families and carers.
