Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks nine new Public Governors

Mr Pearse Butler, Chair

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wants you to help it shape the future.

The Trust is seeking candidates for nine Public Governor positions within various constituencies across the catchment area and wants to hear from as many people as possible who are interested in having their say on how healthcare should be provided locally. The elections will be held in August 2019.

The vacancies are as follows:

Public Constituency Number of Vacancies
Blackpool 4
Fylde 1
North West Counties 1
Wyre 3

Trust Governors are required to be members of the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and their role is to represent their respective local constituencies, provide advice and support and help influence the Trust’s decision-making in terms of how it develops services for the people of Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, Lancashire and beyond.

Mr Pearse Butler, Trust Chair, said: “Governors are vital to the success of a Foundation Trust.  The role is interesting and rewarding but also takes time and commitment. Governors contribute to a Foundation Trust being managed appropriately, with a number of statutory responsibilities including; the appointment of the Chair, Non-Executive Directors and External Auditors, and holding the Non-Executive Directors to account.

“Under the Health and Social Care Act, a majority of Governors are required to approve any significant transaction decisions.  Governors are elected to represent the interests of patients and the public.”

Membership of the Foundation Trust doesn’t cost anything, and there are numerous benefits for the Trust and the local community alike, which can be seen on the Trust’s website: www.bfwh.nhs.uk.

Your application can be received via the website, by post or by telephone.  In order to be eligible to stand for election you will need to have joined by Monday, 22nd July 2019, the close of nominations.

For further information about the roles please call Jacinta Gaynor, Membership & Governors Officer, on 01253 956673 or email jacinta.gaynor@nhs.net
