BABIES born in Blackpool on May 14 have been given lifetime admission to The Blackpool Tower as part of the historic landmark’s 125th birthday celebrations.

The Tower has set a week-long programme of events to mark its special occasion and part of those celebrations include giving every baby born in Blackpool Victoria Hospital on May 14 a pass to visit the Tower for free for the rest of their life.

Nikkita Wood, a Blackpool mum-of-three, was one of the mums who was delighted to receive a pass for her newborn baby.

She and partner Liam Lloyd, welcomed little Ava-Marie, who weighed 8lbs 3oz, at 2.19am. Nikkita said: “We can’t wait to take Ava-Marie on her first trip to the Tower.

“As a family the promenade is a very special place to us. I remember visiting there as a little girl, so we’re looking forward to enjoying it together.”

Also bringing their bundle of joy into the world was Charley Moran and Jordan Devenport, from Fleetwood. The pair are now parents to Luca, who weighed in at 5lbs 1oz at 9.27am.

Charley said: “The first time I visited the Tower was on a school trip and we got to look down through the glass platform. Having a lifetime pass for Luca has made his birthday extra special and we can’t wait to take him on his first trip there, creating more memories!”

Shelley Piper, Head of Hospital-based Services, Families Division, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Tower into our hospital to give out the fantastic gifts for our little newborn babies.

“There were six babies born on the Tower’s birthday, all of which have received a life time pass.

“The Blackpool Tower is a real landmark right across the world and we’re extremely proud to have it so close to home.

“Welcoming newborns into the world is always a fantastic experience but it has been extra special for us to be part of the Tower’s 125th birthday celebrations and we’re thrilled to have shared in the excitement.”
