Volunteer Barry’s 80th hits all the right notes

BTH volunteer Barry Evans, widely known for his piano playing at both Victoria and Clifton Hospitals, has celebrated his 80th birthday with a special party thrown by colleagues.

With a colourfully decorated white chocolate cake, fizz and doughnuts, he was joined by well-wishers keen to share the big day with him. Barry who has been volunteering at Clifton for 22 years, hails from Manchester and plays piano at least twice a week at the hospital to entertain patients. He also plays at Church Road Methodist Church in St Annes and for guests at the nearby Clifton Park Hotel.

Tucking into his birthday cake and raising a glass, Barry said “It’s wonderful to see so many people here today” and, clearly looking forward to even more years of playing, added that he’s hoping for a new piano in the near future.

Catherine Henshaw, Voluntary Services Team Leader said “Barry brings so much joy to all our patients and we’re delighted to be able to celebrate with him. We truly appreciate all our volunteers and hope Barry will be part of the team for many years to come”.

Here’s to you, Barry – thank you for all you do!
