Hospital staff benefit from free table tennis table

A free outdoor ping pong table has been served up at Blackpool Victoria Hospital as part of a nationwide street table tennis project.

The Trust has benefited from Blackpool being selected to be a flagship location for Ping!, a free street ping pong resource which is being provided in towns and cities across England. With a table placed in the Cardiac Centre courtyard.

Ping! Blackpool has been organised by Sport Blackpool in partnership with Table Tennis England and the Trust is one of several partners involved in the delivery of the event locally through the Healthier Workforce group.

Funded by Sport England, the scheme aims to remove barriers to exercise and make physical exercise more readily available.

Hannah Foxcroft from the Trust’s Healthier Workforce Manager, said: “We are really pleased to be working with the Ping project and the table is proving really popular.

“It gives staff chance to get some exercise at a convenient time for them and is definitely good fun. The response so far has been excellent.’’

The table was launched by Olympian Shelly Woods who said: “I love table tennis and have a table at home. It is good exercise, is really good fun and I find it a really good stress buster as well.’’

All staff are welcome to have a go.
