Blackpool Tower to light up pink to mark Organ Donation Week

BLACKPOOL Tower will light up pink this week to mark Organ Donation Week.

The Tower and its famous Heart will illuminate Pink between 8pm and 9pm until September 13 and will coincide with the first hour of the illuminations.

Jason Cupitt, a Consultant anaesthetist at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the clinical lead of the organisation’s Organ Donation Committee, said: “We are very grateful to Merlin Entertainments Ltd for supporting us with this very important event in our annual calendar and we hope people will visit The Blackpool Tower the next time they are there to say thank you.

“You could save or transform up to nine people’s lives by donating your organs when you die and help even more people by donating tissue and that is why it is so important to raise awareness on the subject and encourage people to talk about organ donation.

“Families will still be involved before organ donation goes ahead, so it is important donors share their decision with family or closest friends, and record it on the NHS Organ Donor Register.’’

Visit www.organdonation.nhs.uk to find out more and register your decision – it’s a simple process that takes just a couple of minutes.
