A) The number of patients kept on life support for more than 28 days in 2015, 2016 and 2017?
and B) The total cost of keeping patients on life support each year in 2015, 2016 and 2017?

2015 2016 2017 Total VENTILATION SUPPORT 7 8 5 20 These are the patients who:
- Are coded as having ventilation under E851 or E852 (other types of ventilation are coded but they are unlikely to be classed as “life support” eg a nebulizer which can be used for treating asthma)
- Were on ITU/CITU/HDU at the start of episode
- Had a total length of stay greater than or equal to 28 days

Patient level costing not in place at this Trust. To determine if we hold this information and retrieve it would require a manual trawl of patient case notes which would exceed 18 hours. This information is therefore exempt on the grounds of cost (Section 12(1)).
