- Description
What your eligibility criteria are for breast cancer patients who are wanting to undergo fertility preservation (for example cryopreservation), provided there is adequate time and their oncology allows. NHS Fylde and Wyre CCG have recommended I contact yourselves with regards to this information
More specifically;- Is there an upper age limit (female/male)?
- Is there a limit on whether the patient already has children?
- Are there any restrictions, specifically smoking status or body mass index?
- What fertility options are offered? For example, embryo cryopreservation and/or oocyte cryopreservation?
- Is there a time limit for storage?
- How many IVF cycles or embryo transfers are covered?
In addition, what information on breast cancer patients undergoing fertility preservation do you currently collate, for example, numbers referred each year, numbers undergoing treatment and successful pregnancies each year, and is this data available for us to access?
- Response
Our Trust refers any breast cancer patient with fertility preservation issues to the regional unit at Manchester (Department Of Reproductive Medicine, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9WL). Below is a link to their web site.
http://www.cmft.nhs.uk/saint-marys/our-services/gynaecology/reproductive-medicine/fertility-treatment/fertility-preservation-(for-patients-diagnosed-with-cancer)/female-patientsWe do not routinely record data regarding ‘numbers referred each year, numbers undergoing treatment and successful pregnancies each year’. These can be obtained from the centre as the service is not provided by us.
