Hospital charity Blue Skies has announced it’s high-profile new patron – singing legend Alfie Boe.
The Blackpool-born tenor is best known for his performances as Jean Valjean in the musical Les Misérables and more recently his Vegas shows with Michael Ball.
As patron, one of Alfie’s first roles is to support the launch of the charity’s new appeal linked to the 75th birthday of the NHS.
He has called on the local community to support the good cause and help make a difference to people’s lives in the area.
Alfie said: “As Patron of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, I am delighted to be able to launch the Blue Skies 75th Anniversary Appeal. Coming from the Fylde Coast, I feel it is important to support the work of our local hospitals and Blue Skies is a charity that is close to my heart.
“After supporting a CT Scanner for the new Emergency Village opening Spring 2023, funds are now running low. I am therefore asking for your help to ensure that the charity can continue with the great work that they do.
“The NHS has always been there for us, especially during the recent pandemic and will be celebrating its 75th birthday in 2023. This appeal will run alongside this momentous event.”
Head of Charity, Kila Redfearn, added: “We are thrilled to have Alfie Boe on board as our patron and he will undoubtedly help the charity with our 75th Anniversary appeal”.
Thanks to the generosity of the local community, Blue Skies has recently purchased a state-of-the-art CT Scanner, costing £500,000, to be located in the new Emergency Village at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, due to open later in 2023.
The possibility to increase the number of scans means shorter waiting times for patients and a more streamlined pathway for acute patients needing time-critical diagnosis. The new scanner will be enabled to use very low radiation doses that will be perfect for complex cardiac patients.
Due to this, charity funds are now low, so the charity needs the support of the Fylde Coast more than ever.
