A former soldier who joined Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to help run the vaccination programme and staff testing has been given a Going The Extra Mile award.

Jamie Harrop, formerly a Captain in the Army, serving first in Logistics then ending his military career with the Parachute Regiment, joined the Trust in December last year.

He is now the programme lead for the Vaccination Programme, working to coordinate the effort with other trusts across the region.

He was nominated for an award by Janet Barnsley, Executive Director of Operations at the Trust, who wrote: “He was thrown into the deep end with the hospital hub vaccination programme, mass vaccine programme and asymptomatic staff testing (LAMP).

“Nothing has phased Jamie and in a few short weeks he has become a very valuable member of the team and will take on anything asked of him! Well done and thank you Jamie.”

During his time in the Army, where he was mainly based in Colchester and London, Jamie served in Afghanistan where one of his roles was to ensure personnel and other intergovernmental agencies were meeting all the necessary safety rules around Covid.

Going The Extra Mile is an initiative designed to help staff highlight the incredible work that goes on in the Trust every day.
