The ‘TRES’ term is used to describe any Trainee who requires extra support in the workplace. This encompasses clinical performance, personal circumstance, health issues and disciplinary matters.
What would lead a trainee to needing support?
We anticipate that you will progress through you Foundation Training without problem. However, if it is felt by yourself or your Supervisors that you are not progressing as well as expected, for whatever reason, there is a host of support available to you.
Working in an environment that tests your resilience* every day, it’s no surprise that many health professionals face issues in their professional and personal lives that require support from their colleagues and employers.
How to tackle the issue
Rest assured that seeking support is not to be perceived as failure. It is a sign of strength.
The crucial piece of advice here is to ask for support as soon as possible – no matter how large or small you may feel the issue to be. You will not be the first or the last Trainee to experience an issue, but we can help you find a solution.
What kind of support is there?
Some issues are easily solved with a bit of adjustment, but others can require long term support.
Closer supervision, additional training and more specific targets can be introduced. Your Educational Supervisor, Clinical Supervisor and Foundation Programme Director will be made aware of the situation and will offer practical support, to enable you to successfully complete your Foundation Programme training.
