FAQs

Joining the Foundation Programme as an FY1 means there’s a lot of information to take in.  We’ve laid it all out in the Foundation section of our website, but these are our handy FAQs:

I’m a medical student and I will be joining Blackpool as an FY1 in August. Will I have an Induction?

We have a ten day Foundation Induction, to enable your transition from University to working life at the Hospital to run smoothly.  Please make a note of the Induction Programme dates before making any post Final Exam holiday plans.

What are the Pre-Employment Checks?

Our Recruitment Team will be in contact with you shortly after you are matched to your programme. They will provide you with an offer of employment letter and ask that you complete your pre-employment checks.

They use a recruitment system called TRAC. Due to the nature of the communications sent from TRAC it will be necessary for you to check your junk/spam email folders as sometimes the messages can go there.

Please make sure that you respond to any emails or calls from Recruitment or Occupational Health as quickly as possible. It can take anything from two weeks to two months to process all of your pre-employment checks depending on how pro-active you are.

You are unable to start work on the first Wednesday in August if your checks are not complete prior to this date. It will also delay your IT access if your checks are not completed prior to Induction.
Who are the Medical Education Team?

We are made up of clinicians, Consultants and Admin staff who support every aspect of your foundation programme, educationally and personally. To find out more about who we are please visit our Meet the Team page.

What is the HORUS e-portfolio?

Like an online, interactive diary, HORUS is used to document your learning during your two years on the Foundation Programme.  Your e-portfolio will help you to plan your learning, highlight areas needing extra attention and to demonstrate progression.

Is on-site accommodation available at Blackpool?

Please see the information sheet

How do I find out who my Educational/Clinical Supervisor is?

Your Supervisors will be assigned prior to your first working day and the details will be emailed to you as part of your Welcome Pack.
