WARD staff at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been very eggcited over the Easter period.

Ward 6, at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, sold homemade cakes and held an Easter raffle to raise money for new patient equipment.

Staff, patients and visitors took part during the special week leading up to Easter Monday, by buying the staff-baked treats and raffle tickets for a host of Easter prizes.

In total the staff raised £173.86 and bought a shower chair with wheels and a raised toilet seat with arms. They also donated £70 to the Trust charity, Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

The equipment will help all the patients on the medical escalation ward and will make using the bathroom a lot easier.

Clinical Matron, Stephen Mellars, said: “I wholeheartedly congratulate the whole team for their fantastic efforts to raise the spirits of patients and staff over the Easter weekend.

“The whole team rallied around to fund the event from their own pockets and it is a testament to their team spirit and enthusiasm that they have managed to raise nearly £200.

“They have managed to raise a smile from patients, visitors and staff and that is a great achievement in these difficult times. Well done indeed.”
