UNISON Learning Reps win award for second year

UNISON reps Jane Eyre and Bev Herring with the award

Congratulations to UNISON Learning Representatives, Jane Eyre and Bev Herring who have won an award for their work to support numeracy learning to the staff working at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals for the second year in a row.

The campaign, which is in partnership with National Numeracy, has been running since 2016 and has helped many staff at the Trust to gain the confidence and skills they require to progress at work and move towards the next step in their career.

Jane Eyre said: “We are really proud that we’ve won the award for the second year running, its brilliant!

“In a healthcare setting there’s lots of numeracy involved in people’s jobs on a day-to-day basis.

“This includes working with the patients, taking temperatures, reading fluid balance charts and measuring medication amounts.

“It is so important for staff to be confident in their numeracy ability. Accuracy is key to healthcare roles.

“The recognition of the award helps us spread the work more widely within the Trust and we want to start getting out to the community staff as well as those in hospital settings.

“We could not have won the award without the support of the Trust, UNISON, National Numeracy and UnionLearn”.
