Unexpected visitor for ill children

Children in hospital got a special visitor this week thanks to a kind hearted mother.

Angelina Hawkins from Blackpool arranged for a Minion from the popular Despicable Me films to pay a visit to the children’s and adolescent wards at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Her daughter Grace, aged 12, was staying in the hospital following treatment. Angelina decided the children on the ward needed some cheering up and half an hour later they were being entertained and handed sweets by the popular character.

Angelina said: “I wanted to do something to cheer the children up on the ward. I rang a few people to see if they would be able to come along but they weren’t able to. I remembered I had used the Davey Dee and Enchanted Dreaming agency before for a character appearance at another party so I gave them a ring and they were happy to send someone along.

“It must be terrible for the children to be in hospital this close to Christmas so I thought they would like something of a distraction.”

Roz Norman, a play worker on the ward, said: “We get a lot of the local stars from the pantomimes or sports clubs coming in to visit the children from time to time but obviously they can’t come all the time. The children always love it when someone comes in to visit, especially if they are a well-loved character. It takes their mind off what they are going through.

“It was a really nice gesture of Angelina to arrange this impromptu visit. We all love the Minions.”
