AN American expert in infectious diseases was the special guest speaker at a Trust Symposium this week.

Dr Urania Rappo MD from the USA spoke about her work on the clinical development of Dalbavancin, a long-acting antibiotic, at the Updates in Bone and Joint Infections Symposium organised by Dr Achyut Guleri, Mr Arshad Javed, Jill Moon and Tony Rathbone.

Other speakers included Mr Henry Wynn-Jones, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust and Dr Matthew Scarborough, a Consultant in Clinical Infection from Oxford University Hospitals.

Mr Javed and Dr Guleri also presented a case study as part of the session which was attended by staff from across the county.

Dr Guleri said: “It was great to see high quality speakers taking the trouble of travelling from regional, national and international distances to present their excellent lectures at the symposium.

“It was very well received. The feedback was excellent and the audience was very engaged.’’

Dr Guleri thanked Correvio for supporting the event through an educational grant.
