BLACKPOOL Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has held numerous events as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

To celebrate the work of the learners, and to provide staff and potential apprentices with information about the programme, an ‘Apprentice Evening’ was held on March 6.

Dawn Werra, Trust Clinical Workforce Development Advisor, organised the event. She said: “The event was well attended and the training providers were impressed with the level of talent.

“The event provided information about opportunities that may arise in the future. Apprenticeships are a good alternative to main stream education.”

Local schools and colleges were invited to attend and training providers gave information and showcased their apprenticeship courses and qualifications. These included Estio, Trafford College, Blackpool and Fylde College, ATLAS and Cumbria University.

There were also staff from the Trust’s Recruitment department plus officials from union, Unison.

Eleanor McManus, Career Transformation Engagement and Development Manager, said: “It was brilliant to see school leavers and current Trust staff who are eager to access apprenticeships from Level 2 to Master’s Level 7, here at the Trust.

“We will be holding similar events throughout the year to promote career and development opportunities in the NHS.”

Thirty year-old Pavnoor Samra attended the event to find out about the apprenticeship programme at the Trust.

She said: “I found the event useful to find out information about roles in the hospital. I have recently moved from India and I am interested in working in administration or HR.

“I thought that apprentices were just for younger people but there are a lot of opportunities for everyone.”

There will be information stands at South Shore Primary Care Centre, Thursday March 8, between 11am and 2pm and in the Cardiac Outpatients department of Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Friday, March 9, also between 11am and 2pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
