Trust appoints new digital and data lead

Mark Singleton

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals (BTH) has appointed a new Chief Information Officer in a move that marks a new chapter in the organisation’s ‘digital journey.’

Mark Singleton joins BTH in the role and will be responsible for the Trust’s data and digital systems and teams.

Mark has worked in the NHS for almost 20 years in a range of roles including commissioning, mental health and for community and acute organisations.

Most recently he spent the last nine years at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust overseeing its journey from paper to digital systems. During his tenure at the Trust the organisation was named Europe’s Best Data Powered Business in a top industry award ceremony.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals recently launched its new five-year strategy which sets out the ambition to develop new ways of working and to embrace the digital agenda – Mark’s role will be key to these aims. He will lead digital and information transformation across the Trust and in collaboration with partners in the wider healthcare community.

Mark said: “When the opportunity came up to join Blackpool and help the hospital I was born in and that still serves my family and friends I had to throw my name into the hat, I want to make sure our community receives the best possible care and data and digital will play a major part in that over the years to come.

“I have worked closely with the Trust in previous roles and I’m looking forward to re-establishing relationships and working with new colleagues on this chapter in our digital journey.”

Steve Christian, Deputy Chief Executive at the Trust, added: “Digital is playing such an important role within the NHS and it’s great to have Mark onboard as we look to build on the plans in our five-year strategy.

“Mark will be instrumental in developing and delivering a new digital plan that will have clear benefits for everyone – from patients and their families to our colleagues and partners in the community.”
