BLACKPOOL TOWER will be lit blue this Sunday to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, the Charity for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.

The charity works to enhance patient care in hospitals across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, and despite the turbulent year, their work has continued.

Head of Blue Skies, Kila Redfearn, said: “It’s been a tough year for us all but we just want to thank everyone that has stuck by our side, and hopefully we can continue to support our wonderful NHS for many years to come.”

A number of fundraising events had been planned to mark their silver anniversary, but due to Covid-19, they’ve been cancelled or rescheduled.

Like many other organisations, charities have been hit hard by the pandemic and face a dramatic loss in income.

However, the wave of national support for the NHS has helped promote the work that NHS charities do.

Now, more than ever, Blue Skies are urging the local community to come together to take part in their events, including their Christmas Give a Fiver Appeal.

The annual appeal ensures that every patient in hospital across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre wakes up on Christmas morning with a gift.

Usually on the lookout for presents, this year they are instead asking the local community to donate £5 so presents can be bought in bulk by the charity, reducing the risk of infection.
