Top accolade for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals’ radiology department

Staff from the Radiology department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust who helped the organisation achieve its ISAS Accreditation once again.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals’ Radiology Department has proved it is one of the best in the country after maintaining its accreditation with the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme (ISAS) for the ninth year running.

The accreditation, which is approved by the Royal College of Radiologists and Society of Radiographers, is a national mark of quality which is held by only a small number of NHS Hospital Trusts in the country.

To receive an accreditation, organisations must showcase best practice in patient experience, clinical effectiveness, and patient and staff safety.

The Trust was the first radiology/diagnostic imaging service to achieve ISAS accreditation within the NHS.

Nigel Lewis, Directorate Manager for Radiology, said: “UKAS accreditation of imaging services is a patient-focused assessment that is designed to help diagnostic imaging services ensure that their patients consistently receive high quality services, delivered by competent staff working in safe environments.

“We work hard every year to achieve the accreditation to highlight the great work being accomplished by the department and the Trust in general.

“The standard is also a mark of our quality and excellence, which provides patients with more confidence that we provide a safe and efficient diagnostic imaging service which operates to a high standard.”

“There has been a real team effort in order to achieve this prestigious award. The teamwork needed by staff has led to a sense of unity and pride, not only in the achievement itself, but in knowing that our service is of a high quality.

Accreditation to professional standards is supported by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), NHS England, NHS Northern Ireland and NHS Wales.
