Cloak of Poppies, 2018
In 2018, we launched The Great BTH Knit in order to make a structure to remember the fallen and injured in armed conflict for the World War One centenary.
28,000 knitted and crocheted poppies were donated over the year-long campaign by volunteers from around the Fylde coast and from as far away as Canada.
The poppies featured in an 18 foot high monument, ‘The Cloak of Poppies’ which was unveiled in the main entrance of Blackpool Victoria Hospital in October 2018.
The display housed WW1 artefacts, historic events and personal dedications and memories from the local community. It ended in a Remembrance Service held in front of the groundbreaking structure.
