Radiographer sets her sights on 100k challenge

Rebecca Western

A Fylde coast Radiographer is gearing up for the challenge of her life.

Rebecca Western, who works for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is getting ready to take part in the gruelling 100k Race to the Stones, a famous ultra marathon event.

She will be running 50k a day on both July 14 and 15 in an effort to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Looking ahead to the race she said: “I have run marathons before and recently completed a 32 mile run but this is a new challenge for me.

“It is all for a great cause though. Cancer has affected me in different ways, through different friends and family members and Cancer Research needs every penny that can be spared.

“I am sure it will be tough but I am looking forward to it.’’

The route follows an ancient path across the North Wessex Downs from Lewknor in Oxfordshire to the finish in Avebury. The route is recognised as the oldest path in the UK and passes Bronze Age hill forts, Neolithic burial chambers and Roman river crossings before reaching the largest Neolithic stone circle in Europe.
