Radio presenters bring Halloween smiles

Ollie Burnell with Hayley Kay and Scott Gallagher

Radio Wave Breakfast Presenters, Hayley Kay and Scott Gallagher, brought Halloween to children at Blackpool Victoria Hospital today.

And our young patients were delighted to see them – and the sweet treats the radio duo brought with them.

Ollie Burnell had been looking forward to the visit all morning. The seven-year-old Layton Primary pupil broke his femur four weeks ago and has been an incredibly brave patient. But he was so disappointed to miss going trick or treating with his friends. But his disappointment turned to joy when he saw Hayley and Scott.

“This is a good Halloween he said, after challenging Scott to a video game of Mario Cart. It has been fun being in hospital today, but I miss my friends,” Ollie said. “I’ve been brave the whole time I have been in here.”

The Radio presenters visited the Children’s Ward, Children’s Assessment area and the Adolescent Ward, handing out sweets and flags to patients.

Hayley explained: “We realised there were children who could not enjoy Halloween with their friends so we wanted to make a difference to them. We have been really bowled over by the welcome the children gave us at Blackpool Victoria.”

Hospital Play Specialist, Gemma Probin, thanked the pair for visiting the wards and making the childrens’ day.
