Patient Statement regarding junior doctors’ strike action

A number of junior doctors are staging a 24-hour “emergency care only” action today, Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Some scheduled operations and outpatient appointments at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been postponed to ensure emergency services can run.

“Senior managers and clinicians in the Trust are working closely with trade union representatives to ensure the quality and safety of care we provide to patients is not compromised during this planned BMA industrial action,” said Director of Operations, Pat Oliver.

“Those patients affected have been contacted and those who have not heard from us should assume their appointment or procedure is going ahead as planned.”

Mrs Oliver added: “All urgent and emergency care will continue to be provided. However, we ask patients to consider the seriousness of their condition prior to attending the emergency department.

“The public are asked to consider appropriate alternatives to A&E such as Whitegate Drive, Same Day Health Centre in Fleetwood, local pharmacies, GP surgeries and dentists.”
