Patients spending longer periods of time in hospital enjoy the service provided by the Library trolley volunteers who visit the wards with a wide selection of books once a week in the afternoon.
Eleanor Spence who has been with the Library Trolley for 11 years said: “Being a volunteer for the Library service is a worthwhile and rewarding role. Some patients just appreciate the opportunity to read a book while others enjoy a chat and are glad to have someone to talk to. We are pleased if we can help the patients pass the time in hospital by reading an interesting book.”
If you have any books you would like to donate, we accept paperbacks in good condition. No hardbacks unless they are large print books, biographies or autobiographies. These books may be left at the Welcome Desk in the Outpatients Department.
We are currently recruiting new volunteers within many of our voluntary groups. If you would like to express an interest in volunteering with us, or you require any further information, please check our Volunteer Vacancies page.
