The Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service is based on-site at Victoria Hospital, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We provide an integrated service to the inpatient population at the hospital and to clients living in the community who are registered with a GP in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde.
Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) help people with difficulties in communication and/or swallowing.
SLTs work with clients, carers, families and other health professionals and voluntary agencies.
Many people have difficulties with communication and/or swallowing, these include people with neurodegenerative conditions (e.g Parkinsons Disease, MND), dementia, stroke, stammer, transgender, respiratory conditions, oropharyngeal dysphagia.
There is a separate service for children and also for people with head and neck cancer, people with brain injury and adults with learning disabilities who require SLT.
The team provides 1:1 therapy in clinic and at home for those who are unable to come to clinic. Group therapy and computer therapy are also provided across Blackpool Fylde and Wyre. The team also offer specialised services including LSVT and modified barium swallow.
