Many people who self-harm take steps to hide any damage or scars. Acts of self-harm can be impulsive and secretive, and denial is common. Consequently, it can be difficult for health care professionals to identify those who are at risk.

School Nurses are good listeners and can offer support to a young person who self-harms. School Nurses can signpost you to other specialised services that can offer support. We would encourage you to speak to a family member if you were experiencing thoughts or acts of self-harm.

If you are in need of support or advice, your School Nurse can help.

You can click on 'how to contact us' for ways to get in touch or visit your School Nurse at a school drop-in session.
