Here at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals we support a wide range of studies including: testing new medicines, new equipment and observational studies, looking at people with a particular disease over a period of time. We work with a variety of organisations including other NHS Trusts, universities, charities and pharmaceutical companies both in the UK and overseas.

We are developing research into other clinical areas not listed here to ensure that research can be offered to as many people as possible in Blackpool, the Fylde coast and beyond.

Research is a rapidly expanding part of the Trust’s activity with over 14,000 patients recruited into studies since 2008. We have over 140 clinical research studies open at any one time.

 

The Trust has received national research recognition with awards from:  PharmaTimes Bronze Clinical Research Site 2013; NIHR Certificate of Recognition 2013; Recognising NIHR CRN Leading Commercial Investigators 2015; NWC Research and Innovation Awards 2015 – Outstanding Contribution to Patient and Public Involvement.

 

Clinical Research Centre

 

The Clinical Research Centre (CRC) is a self-contained, comfortable patient focused clinical environment, where patients taking part in clinical research are treated. The CRC provides a pleasant and supportive research environment for both patients (adults and children) and research staff.

The CRC offers:

  • Four private and spacious consultation rooms with comfortable areas for participants
  • Bright and comfortable patient waiting area
  • Friendly, experienced staff to greet and care for trial participants

High Calibre Research staff

 

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals has recruited a research workforce to support all the studies currently running. There is dedicated research time for Consultants and over 80 research staff including:

  • Clinical Research Nurse Manager
  • Senior Research Nurses
  • Research Nurses and Midwives
  • Research Assistant Practitioners
  • Clinical Trials Pharmacy team
  • Clinical Trials Radiographer
  • Clinical Trials Administrators.

Supporting the clinical research team, the Research and Development Office ensures that all research that takes place at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals has been rigorously reviewed in line with current NHS and European Policy to ensure that the public can have confidence in, and benefit from, quality research in health.
