Helen Bright – Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Manager

Helen has taken over as manager for the Cancer Information and Support Service. She previously worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Urology for Blackpool Victoria Hospital. She also has Practice Nursing and District Nursing experience.

Kerrie Newsham – Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Officer

Kerrie began working at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals in 2008 working in Medical Records. She then went on to develop her knowledge in a variety of administration roles gaining qualifications. Kerrie started working for Macmillan on a secondment from the Clinical Audit Team, where she has recently been appointed to the role of Service Officer.

Kerrie is striving to help provide the best care possible for people living with and beyond cancer and is looking forward to progressing with her new projects, her new role and enhancing patient experience in our area.

Lucy Mitchell – Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Assistant

Lucy joined the team in October 2018. She previously worked in the Risk Management Department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.  She has previous experience in liaising with patients having worked in A&E and for the 111 Service, as well as NHS Improvement experience with AQuA (Advancing Quality Alliance). Lucy really enjoys the variety of her role which includes covering the Macmillan Information Centre as well as being able to use her IT degree within various projects.

Julie Summers – Macmillan Community Cancer Care Support Worker

Julie joined the Macmillan Team as a Community Support Worker in November 2018.  Her previous roles have been a Medical Secretary in Maxillofacial, Haematology and Palliative Care and an Occupational Therapy Assistant in Stroke Medicine.

Julie enjoys her varied role especially supporting patients and their families in their own homes and working alongside the rest of the Macmillan Team to provide better care and support for anyone affected by cancer.

Nicola Ellis – Macmillan Community Cancer Care Support Worker

Nicola started with the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Team in October 2018, having previously worked as a Health Care Assistant in Haematology and Oncology, both on the Day Units and in clinics. She enjoys the variety of the role as a support worker and being able to support patients and their families in their own homes.

Jessica Jones – Macmillan Clinical Transformation Lead

Jessica began working at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals as a Health Care Assistant in 2003. Since then she has completed her BSc Hons in Nursing and PGCert in Clinical Oncology. Jessica has worked in a variety of Nursing roles across the Haematology and Oncology department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Jessica is passionate about delivering personalised care and support to people affected by cancer across the Fylde coast. Jessica’s role as transformation lead involves supporting teams to offer personalised care interventions. Click here for more information about the personalised care interventions for cancer.
