The Library and Membership

How do I join the library? 

Fill in a registration form at the library or online via our website 

Do I get a library card when I join the library? 

Yes, as a label that can be fixed to the back of your trust ID badge 

What are the COVID precautions in the library? 

Cleaning wipes, masks, and hand sanitizer are available throughout the library 

How do I access the library out-of-hours? 

By signing up to the library you are granted 24hour access using your Trust ID Badge which you will need to scan on the library door touch pad

Where is the Library?

The Library at Blackpool Victoria Hospital is located in the education centre next to Home 15

When is the Library open?

The Library is open to members 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Library staff are available between 8:30am and 4pm Monday-Friday

What do I need to access the computers in the library?

You will need your own username and password from the IT Department to access the computers in the Library


Borrowing Books

How many books can I borrow? 

You can borrow up to 10 books at a time

Can I borrow out books out-of-hours? 

Yes, by using the self-service machine. You will need your library membership number or library card 

How long can I borrow books for? 

Book loans are for four weeks. You can renew books a maximum of three times, as long as they haven't been reserved by someone else. 

Where can I return books? 

There is a Book Return box next to the self-service machine where you can return books 

How can I search for books? 

Using the online catalogue 

Will I be fined if my books are overdue? 

We charge an overdue fee of 10p a day over the initial return date. If the book is lost, we will be in contact about costing for a replacement book. 

What material does the Library hold?

The Library collection covers a range of topics including medicine, nursing, allied health, study and research skills, management and leadership, health and wellbeing.  There is also a collection of fiction books.

A book I need is not on the catalogue. How do I request a book?

If there is a specific book that you require you can request that we borrow a copy from another Library by filling in the online form
Do you have ILS/ PILS books?

Yes we do have both adult and paediatric ILS books. You must be a library member to take them out and be within 2 weeks of your course date.

What online resources do you have? 

The best way to find and access our resources is via the Knowledge and Library HubSign in with your OpenAthens account to search for eJournals and eBooks, and follow the links to databases and other resources. 

How do I request an article?

If you require a copy of a specific article please complete the online request form

 

Facilities

Do you have a printer?

 Yes, we have a colour printer which has scanning and photocopying functionality. Printing is only for work purposes. 

Is there an internal telephone I can use? 

Yes, a telephone is present on the left-hand side of the main library door. 

How do I book a room to do some quiet group study, run a training session or do some quiet solo study?
The room booking system can be used to book the library IT room and we have three study pods available to be used on a first come first served basis (the study pods are only bookable under certain special circumstances, please speak to a member of the Library team)
