Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Team is based within the Lancashire cardiac Centre. The team is very multi-disciplinary in nature consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists and Administrative staff. We also have input from the Dieticians.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation team see all patients post MI, post PCI and post surgery.

All patients are seen one to one during their hospital admission and given discharge advice and contact numbers. All local patients are contacted at home and the Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise and advice programme is offered to them. Patients from out of the local area are referred back to their local Cardiac Rehabilitation Team.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme is an 8- week community based outpatient programme consisting of both exercise and advice. The advice sessions cover a variety of topics including anatomy and physiology, medications, diet, stress management and exercise. Entrance onto the exercise component of the cardiac rehabilitation programme is via an exercise tolerance test or a six-minute walk test. Those unable to undertake the exercise component of the programme are able to attend for the advice part of the programme.

Following successful completion of the programme patients can then be referred onto a variety of exercise programmes held in their local community.
