We see most children, young people and families at our central base at Whitegate Drive in Blackpool.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAHMS) provide a service for children and young people (0 – 16 years) and their families who are experiencing difficulties ranging from significant emotional or behavioral problems to persistent mental health disorders.

The teams provide assessment and a range of therapeutic interventions as well as access to other CAMHS specialist services provided regionally. As well as direct work with children, young people and families, the teams can provide consultation to and training for other agencies and professionals.

Referrals are accepted from professionals such as: GPs, Community child health staff, Paediatric medical staff, Social care Health professionals. This is ether through the choose and book system for GPs or via completion of a CAF by health and social care staff.

We understand it can be difficult to decide upon the most appropriate agency to refer a family or young person on to. Consequently, we welcome enquiries by telephone a CAMHS Consultation can be requested by calling 01253 957160.

You must get consent from the parent / carer or young person if appropriate before discussing their concerns with CAMHS, and make them aware that CAMHS is required to keep a record of this consultation.

We see most children, young people and families initially at our central base at Whitegate Drive in Blackpool. However, a smaller number of clinic slots are available at various centers in Blackpool.

Following this initial assessment we may see children and young people at home, in school or other appropriate place.

In the event of an emergency, parents are advised to contact their general practitioner or in cases of serious risk or self harm to take their child to the Accident and Emergency department at Victoria Hospital.

Where if admitted to the paediatric ward CAMHS will assess the young person within 24 hours or next working day.
