Blackpool Children and Young Persons Learning Disability Team made up of different healthcare professionals who provide specialist assessment, support, and advice to children and young people up to the age of 18 who have moderate to severe learning disabilities this can be on a variety of needs.
The team is committed to working in partnership with parents and caregivers to support families and educate others to help children and young people with learning disabilities to manage their every day. We offer interventions around the needs of the child which could be within school, online and the home environment.

Who is the service for?
The Children and Young Persons Learning Disability team supports young people under the age of 18 with a diagnosed learning disability and registered with a Blackpool GP. Our assessments are carried out by qualified professionals, and we are a needs led service meaning that we plan our interventions around each child or young person and their parent/caregiver.
The following are some of the issues that we can support with:
- Behaviours that challenge
- Toileting with a behavioural element
- Engagement sessions
- Weekly drop-in
- Non-judgemental, friendly environment
- Liaison with other services
All referrals for the Children’s and Young Persons Learning Disability Team can be emailed to: firstname.lastname@example.org and one of our team will screen the referral and let you know the outcome. You can also email the team for a referral form to complete and send back. Please note: We accept referrals until 4:30pm from Monday to Friday and we are closed on bank holidays.
We also have a telephone consultation service on Tuesday afternoons between 1pm – 3:30pm for professionals to talk through any referrals they may have in mind. During this time, a member of our team will be on hand to offer advice and consultation before making a referral.
A member of our team will also be at the CYPLD Parent and carer drop-in every Friday morning from 9:30am – 11:30am at Aiming Higher, 231-233 Church Street, Blackpool, FY1 3PB (from 25th August 2023) to offer advice and support to families who have a child or young person with a Learning Disability.
