Nursing – The best profession in the world

On International Nurses Day, Pete Murphy, Director of Nursing, Midwifery, AHP & Quality at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals has taken the opportunity to celebrate what he calls ‘the best profession in the world’.

The Trust is enjoying a day of celebration and appreciation for our brilliant nursing community and taking a moment to recognise their achievements, particularly over the past two years.

“Today is a day that we come together to celebrate our wonderful profession, probably the best profession in the world,” Pete said.

“I’m always mindful that the last two and a half years have been very difficult for all professional groups, and in particular for our nursing profession.

“My message for today is please be kind to each other, be kind to yourselves, appreciate all that you have been through, take time to reflect on what we’ve been through and please know that you are all very much appreciated for everything that you do.”

The Trust’s Medical Director, Dr Jim Gardner has also spoken about the fantastic work of the nurses at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, saying: “Congratulations to all nursing colleagues. You are so important to the safe running and the love and care that we give to patients.

“We’ve seen extraordinary acts of professionalism and heroism and love over the last few years and I know that’s ingrained in the professional values of all our nursing colleagues.”

We have collected the thoughts and stories of a wide-range of our nurses on a special series of videos for International Nurses Day, which can be viewed on the playlist below.
