A nurse has spoken of her ‘extraordinary’ patients after being named Blackpool Teaching Hospitals’ Employee of the Year.

Nicky Ritchie is Lead Colorectal Cancer / Stoma Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Trust.

She was nominated for the Employee of the Year category in Blackpool Teaching Hospitals’ recent Celebrating Success awards.

The category looks for the individual whose contribution, support and positive attitude has made the most outstanding contribution to their team and the Trust.

The winner is a ‘role model of professionalism and courtesy, a caring and compassionate staff member who demonstrates the Trust’s vision and values.

Presenting the award during a virtual ceremony, Louise Ludgrove, the Trust’s Executive Director of People and Culture, said Nicky is a person who “has met the challenges of COVID as a catalyst for change, looking at how her team could change the way they work to maintain seamless provision of quality care. Stepping up at a difficult time to provide her team with support and leadership, she created an environment where her colleagues felt valued and proud of their achievements.”

Nicky said: “I was absolutely overwhelmed to be nominated for the employee of the year award and feel so privileged to have just been shortlisted, let alone chosen as the winner.

“I feel extremely lucky to have a job that I love, caring for an extraordinary group of patients, and within the most wonderful, caring and hard-working team.”
