Volunteering proves route to work for Jorge

Volunteering at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals has been the route to a job for Jorge White.

The biology graduate of Lancaster University became a volunteer helper on the haematology unit and A&E after doing work experience in 2019.

“I really enjoyed the environment, talking to the patients, meeting the staff and learning lots of medical facts which is useful to my degree, so I decided to come back as a volunteer to complete my gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award,” he said.

Now Jorge, 21, from Fleetwood, has successfully applied to be a healthcare assistant. His long-term plan is to become a genetics counsellor.

It’s Volunteers’ Week and to find out more about becoming a volunteer with us visit the Trust website. These are our current vacancies.
