National praise for Fylde coast hospital Play Specialist

Leanne Lamb

A HOSPITAL Play Specialist has been praised for providing an “exceptional’’ account reflecting on the work she undertakes as part of the paediatrics team at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Leanne Lamb, who works in the children’s unit at the hospital, has been commended by the Healthcare Play Specialist Education Trust (HPSET) for producing an exceptional account of her professional development during the past year.

All registered Health Play Specialists are required to submit a profile for audit every three years, summarising their practice history, reflecting on their learning from Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activity and detailing the actions taken in response to feedback from colleagues and service-users.

Leanne’s submission was so good that she was one of the nominees for HPSET’s award for CPD Profile of the Year, a national award that indicates best practice in the field of healthcare play.

Julia Whitaker, Registration Co-ordinator for the HPSET, said: “Between January and April 2020, HPSET’s Registration Standards Committee assessed and approved 205 audit profiles and were impressed by the professionalism exhibited in all submissions.

“Twenty seven of the profiles were identified as having gone ‘above and beyond’ the requirements and Leanne was commended for producing an exceptional account of her professional development during the past year, which demonstrates her commitment to improving the quality of the play service provided to the children, young people, and families in your Trust.

“The safety of the public is of paramount importance and Health Play Specialists must be able to demonstrate that they are working to the same professional standards of care as their multi-disciplinary colleagues.’’

Leanne, who has worked for the Trust for 19 years, said: “It was so nice to receive recognition for the work I did. It was hard work but enjoyable at the same time.’’

Berenice Groves, Director of Operations at the Trust, added her praise, saying: “Leanne is a long serving and valued member of staff and I am delighted to see her hard work has been recognised in such a way.

”She worked extremely hard on her evidence profile as she was one of the first to go through this new process set by HPSET. She thoroughly deserves this recognition as a nominee for this award.’’
