Local landmarks set to ‘light it up blue’ this Saturday

Local landmarks and iconic buildings across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre will be ‘lighting up blue’ this Saturday to mark the 73rd birthday of the NHS.

The birthday is a chance to say thank you to NHS staff, volunteers and partners and local communities following one of the most challenging years in its history.

The blue lights will also be an opportunity to celebrate the success of the NHS vaccination programme.

While marking all that the NHS has achieved, we will also remember those who have lost their lives to Covid during this simple act of respect.

It is hoped that many private businesses and organisations will join in the celebration by lighting up their premises and buildings blue.

Locations confirmed to be turning blue from 6pm, Saturday 3rd July include:

  • Blackpool Victoria Hospital
  • Blackpool Tower
  • Illumination’s Arches
  • Winter Gardens Dome
  • The Big One Rollercoaster
  • Hampton By Hilton Hotel
  • Lytham Windmill
  • Marine Hall, Fleetwood

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals will also be marking the 73rd birthday with a weeklong celebration of our colleagues and workforce across all areas of the Trust. Patients at Blackpool Victoria will also be given commemorative birthday cakes in recognition of the landmark date.
