A Facebook group set up to donate toys to a children’s ward has donated hundreds of gifts.

The ‘Christmas Toy Appeal for Blackpool Victoria Children’s Wards’ group is run by Blackpool’s Michelle Green and Sue Ridley and was set up following an appeal for toys four years ago.

Michelle, a part time carer, said: “I organise this in between work and looking after my son.

“People have either dropped off their donated toys, or we have been to collect them.

“We have had doctors donating cash and a donation from HTI Toys in Fleetwood, but everything else has been given by the general public.”

The annual appeal starts around September each year within the group which has 800 members.

Sue said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported us. I think this is the most we have ever had. If it wasn’t for all the generous people out there, we would not be able to do this.

“A child shouldn’t be in hospital at Christmas, but for those who are, we hope the donations will at least cheer them up a little.”

Head of Fundraising, Kila Redfearn said: “This is just another fantastic example of what the general public can do. The people on the Fylde coast are absolutely amazing. “
